My new hobby
As I tweeted last night, I had an inordinate amount of fun interrupting Conversions on Cho’gall last night. And it’s so, so easy as a Prot Pally. And to top it all off, a quick response to the casts can also save your life if you’re tanking Cho’gall away from the raid and your tank healer gets MC’d. So this definitely a skill you want to nurture for your bouts with Cho’gall.
I used the first macro on this Maintankadin thread, and it absolutely did the trick.
#showtooltip Avenger's Shield /targetenemyplayer /cast Avenger's Shield /targetlasttarget
I watch the timers for Conversion, and then right before they hit I line up my GCD so that I have one free as the mind controls go out. I then strafe for a step so that the mind controlled people are all in front of me, hit the macro, and with luck the shield will bounce between everyone and dispel all the MCs. The downside is you’re doing damage to the Converted, but you’re bringing them back into the fight immediately, unlike a fear.
That last part is key when you’re covering your tank healer. You need them up and healing again ASAP, and being able to cover their Conversions yourself is a great insurance policy.
And, let’s not forget the epeen! Last night I posted 45% of the interrupts across our Cho’gall attempts. And that’s including Depravity interrupts, so my percent of Conversion interrupts was likely much, much higher.
Slash flex, and all that.

Nice and even much better than what us warriors are doing. We simply stack everyone on his butt and when the timer is up, I shockwave the lot of them. Works like a charm. Only stops working when we’re moving to down adds.
So yes, 45% is very impressive!

A-HA! You admit that Paladins do something better than Warriors! Framing this comment.

True, pallies are better at playing Captain America than we are.
There’s almost nothing more frustrating than bouncing the shield off two hunter pets and a shadowfiend. Just sayin’

You also dominate the adds in the last part of the fight. One well placed AS stops 3 tentacles from raping the minds of your raid members for a while.

LOL! I’m so glad I found a fellow lover-of-hitting-MC’d-friends with a shield!
It really is a badass way to handle the conversions.

Does that mean you’re gearing for more hit for that fight? I’ve enjoyed playing a part in the interrupting I’ve done in heroics (haven’t seen anything by Magmaw so far) and not having to worry about threat means I can focus on the interrupting – but nothing is worse than watching your shield go flying past your target!
I’m guessing it was just a case of trying AS first and if that fails fall back to the CC?

I’ve never missed. You’re only hitting 85 mobs (aka other players), so hit isn’t that big of a concern, if any.
Very nice, a great macro for that fight. In our runs we usually had everyone stack right behind him, so I was able to AS the worshipers by letting shield bounce from Cho’Gall himself – but that is positioning nuance and doesn’t work for every raid group – but the macro does.
We finally downed that ogre last night – with four players still alive. We had saved heroism for the second phase, but we were blowing all of our 2,3,4 even 5 minute dps cooldowns at the very start. It was taking us about 6 minutes to get through the first phase, so they were ready for burn on the second phase. Our dps also popped those incredible dps boost flasks – Tol’Vir and whatnot. I found that popping GoAK as my first or second cd let it refresh for the second phase, so even when the other tank died I was able to live through a good minute of post-Fury beatdown.
Back on topic, since my AS bounce was concurrent with everyone else’s worship ending spells, I didn’t get all that many hits off. Since you did, my question is this: did the worshipers get silenced? Those 3 seconds of silence for a healer would be just as bad as the 3 seconds of fear, although with less silly running around.

They did get silenced, but I didn’t hear any complaints about it, so I don’t think it affected them too much.
Complaints inc.
Actually, you were brilliant and such. Well done.
