Tankadin HP hotfix nerfed
No details yet, other than:
It’s an intentional change. Sorry that the fix went in before the announcement. The announcement should be up soon with more details.
And yes folks, this is justified, please don’t freak out. Probably a needed reduction in our superior stamina scaling. It sucks how they sprung this on us, but in the end it was justified. They were never going to buff other tanks to our level, this nerf was inevitable.
Last request: please don’t go forth and QQ, let’s be the bigger tank about this.
Update: Looks like Sacred Duty went from 8% stamina increase to 4%.
Talk about some complete bullshit. Im sitting at a 2750gs and my hp is just barely breaking 36k, granted i have more mitigation/avoidance than alot of other pallys, but I was stoked to hit 40k self buffed. Such garbage

Yeah this is disproportionately going to hurt people still gearing up over those in higher level gear that were seeing the kind of chasm our stamina scaling was opening up between us and other plate tanks. It sucks they had to do it like this rather than fixing the root cause of why our stam scaling was so OP.
Honestly, it’s not even the nerf that has me…not upset, but miffed, I guess is the best way to put it. No, it’s the WAY they did it. Implementing a nerf like this during prime raiding times on the East Coast was a bad idea. I can only imagine how many people were in the middle of tanking something, low health, about to pop that cooldown to get themselves up, and then keel over and die because the nerf zapped their remaining HP.
Ok, so it probably wasn’t that many people, but I’m sure someone had it happen to them. IMO, this nerf shoulda been implemented during a rolling restart or something.
The nerf itself does not bother me. It’s the fact that it happened without notice. I happened to be in the middle of a raid when my health just dropped without reason. I held up the raid while I checked buffs, equipment etc. I also lost focus for a few attempts because I kept checking buffs, equipment, and checking my armory to be sure I wasn’t crazy.
Tijeras’s last blog ..Protadin: @Rhidach Pissed me off that it happened in the middle of a raid. I held up the raid 5 min while I checked buffs/equipment
Yeah, the totally unannounced change was uncalled for. The change itself was justified, though perhaps it’s not the best choice they could have made to fix the problem.
I actually didn’t notice during the raid, since it was a partially PUGed disaster (Dark Prophecy is recruiting people who show up to raids, Horde-side Mug’thol ;)) and as an officer I was busy just keeping things in line. But I’d swapped my Black Heart for my new Corpse Tongue Coin to get a feel for the stamina and avoidance differences, and when I switched back after we called the raid I noticed I was 1300 health short, unbuffed. Spent a good 20 minutes trying to figure out what had changed about my gear or if my unit frames were bugged before I went looking for stealth nerfs. Figured they’d changed a piece of my gear similar to how the Corroded Skeleton Key was buffed and I hadn’t noticed.

I did the calculation comparing health against a warrior with the same gear at my paladin’s gear level (a mix of i232 and i200 – no stamina trinkets – they just won’t drop for me!) – with the warrior using an Armor Plated Combat Shotgun with a +30 stamina gem (there are better options now but that is what my warrior runs with).
Before this hotfix – my paladin will catch up with the warrior if fully raid buffed but was behind by about 300 health unbuffed.
After this change the difference will be 1k health in favour of the warrior (fully buffed, 1.1k unbuffed). However Paladin’s also have the advantage in terms of potential damage reduction (dependent upon Divine Please uptime basically, and I’m not looking at mitigation here which should also be higher for Pallies with 10% holy shield uptime).
So I agree it is justified, but as you said it’ll affect those with lower gear than those with the better gear.
Gameldar’s last blog ..Patch 3.3.2
The change itself is displeasing. It’s not going to break things. I’m still gonna be tanking everything I can get access to. But it’s a little irritating to log in and find out that Blizzard decided to hack off 1.7k health without explaining why or where it’s coming from. To be honest, I thought the reason why paladins were given superior stamina scaling was due to the fact that we had the lowest base health of all the tanking classes. It’s just irritating that they didn’t have the foresight, or fortitude to actually put it in the patch notes. I’m sick of all these random ass hotfixes.
The Renaissance Man’s last blog ..Fail of the Lich King
They nerfed it too much. I’d keep it at 6% instead of 4%
But Blizz is known for hitting the nerf bat too hard.
Pretty small change, considering the brutal hatchet job DK tanks got last year. I’m not too concerned.

I am usually very familiar with my HP but I was mostly 10 manning last night, and I move my gear around a lot in 10 man stuff. Then post raid I was having fun gemming and enchanting new gear (Cataclysmic chestguard! yay!) So I didn’t even notice until I checked my twitter to see my feed aflood.
4% nerf? Who cares. Probably necessary. If it brings us in line with other tanking classes, I’m all for it. If it nerfs us a little too much, whatever! Skilled pally tanks will still be skilled. I just hope this shuts up some of the whiners!
