How to use Divine Sacrifice in 3.3

Save this macro (from Theck) now, and just drop it on your bars once 3.3 hits:

/cast Divine Sacrifice
/in 0.5 /script CancelUnitBuff(“player”,”Divine Sacrifice”)

Click only once, and thanks to the recent PTR change to Divine Guardian you’ll put up a 20% raid damage reduction without taking any damage:

  • Divine Guardian: This talent no longer increases the amount of damage transferred to the paladin from Divine Sacrifice. Instead it causes all raid and party members to take 10/20% reduced damage while Divine Sacrifice is active. In addition, the duration has been changed to 6 seconds, however the effect does not terminate when Divine Sacrifice is removed before its full duration.

3.3 is such a kick in the teeth.

    so umm i need a clarification here….

in GC’s post about the “proposed” LoH change, he said we were no longer meant to be a support class as he put it. So what does this change do to reflect that mentality?

and how much QQ is this going to cause? – oh look, pallies now have raid wide pain suppression that is free!(? is this the spell?) NERF TO THE F***** GROUND. OMG OP IN PVP. NERF NERF.

    le sigh

kinda haywired right now since reading about the LoH and SS changes, as well as reading all the stupid posts everywhere where people are crying foul on the changes and people calling for the death of the class blah blah..

and thanks for answering my question about the weapons! just gotta find someone to do the stupid enchant for me.

as an aside… the armor proc from QS is about 1.32% damage reduction for me and 2.6387% combined avoidance (pretty sure my avoidance macro has the inbuilt DR calculations) so not too shabby :D running around with 550+ def without the weapon helps haha..

and another thing… they say the effect is does not terminate when the buff goes poof before completion… is there a point to that?

the way i read the divine sacrifice wording you would always have it up for its full duration

The reason for keeping the damage mitigation up even if the buff is gone is because you can take some pretty heavy burst that might max out the total you can absorb – long before the timer is up.

A six second reduction every two minutes isn’t exactly OP.

For more on SS check out my blog where I show the actual math behind it – and why changing the spell won’t really hurt us much.

    OK then
    /target teeth

But that doesn’t sound any more pleasant.

After doing all that math on DSac at PlusHeal and seeing these latest PTR changes, I have given up trying to work out the effects until after 3.3 goes live. I am willing to trust Blizzard after seeing where I am as a healer and where others are as tanks, even after the Great Illumination Nerf of 2009.

I see the biggest reason to make the raid mitigation active for the full duration is to avoid group placement games.

As for a tank cooldown? Sure, if you also wouldn’t mind casting Hand of Sacrifice on the squishiest, blindest, or most oblivious person in your party while tanking. It could be brilliant. It could also get you knocked down to 20% health (dead).
