Oh, goody: SoV bug in ur threat, gimpin’ ur tps
Next time your threat feels sub par, you now know who to blame: the Ret Pally.
The Seal of Vengeance proc is currently bugged so that if there are two or more SoV stacks on a mob, the proc does the damage of the lowest stack.
So say you’re diligently keeping a five-stack up, and a Ret Pally runs off to kill an add and lets his stack fall off. He comes back and starts swinging again. As soon as his SoV dot applies once, your threat drops as your proc reverts to the damage bonus of a one-stack.
And because Ret has such a higher wind up time, it can be a good 15 seconds before you start seeing five-stack procs again.
Something to look out for.

Really I don’t see it as that big a deal at the moment, most of your initial snap aggro comes from an AS and SoR. However, I do see this as a buff to Ret at the moment, I have five stacks up when my ret pally has 2, increasing their judgement damage substantially.

I’ve been occasionally inquiring into threat losses in 3.2 and have mostly been given recommendations on playstyle. That’s fine and there is usually a lot to gain from altering how we play this game but the fact that the change corresponded with 3.2 made me wonder more. I don’t think I’ve started playing differently. Of course, I attributed it to the SoV changes in general.
One of my best IRL friends plays a ret paladin and we do most of our raids and heroics together. I suspect that this is at least part of the cause in threat loss that I’ve noticed. Last night when I raid the heroic daily with another group (with a lock and uber-dps rogue) I had no issues at all. /wonders
I have to admit that this kinda stuff really “bugs” me. There have been so many rapid changes to classes lately that it really feels that Blizz is accumulating a large backlog of bugs faster than they are resolving them. I’d much rather coordinate judgements in 3.1 between paladins than fight with each other over which Seals to use.
QQ :P :)

SAYS THE SON OF THE RET PALLY!!
Having my father in the raid would be FAR more damaging than this bug :)
@Wrathy
This does sort of act as a buff to rets, but not in the manner you describe. As Rhidach says, the proc works based on the _lowest_ SoV stack. This can help a ret, in that prot paladins can put the SoV debuff on multiple mobs a lot easier, which can let the ret paladin get procs on mobs he wasn’t already attacking. But he’s not likely to get your 5 stack; as soon as he puts on his 1 stack, that’s apparently what both of your procs will be based upon.
I have seen some worrying threat numbers from my prot paladin tanks lately and now am wondering if I’m partly to blame :(
So now we got to black list ret pallys eh :d ??? Damn.
