All I have to say about the Firelands nerfs

The first round of hatchlings died with 37 seconds left on the clock. The second round I delivered the death blow with 30 seconds left. We never got a second round of tornadoes.

Majordomo was perhaps the most pitiable boss in there, as we entirely skipped his Burning Orbs phase. We killed the poor bastard in the Scorpion phase right before. In the lead up to the fight, we were figuring out what to do while missing one raid cooldown that we usually had, when I pointed out that the whole damn raid now has a 25% Divine Guardian up the entire time thanks to the nerfs.

It was embarrassing for poor Domo. The guy used to really give us a run for hit money. But now he’s been completely declawed.

Bottom line on the nerfs: Too soon, Executus. And too far.

It’s great that some guilds will finally get to see the bosses they’ve been stuck on forever. But at the same time, it really feels like the place has been outright cheapened. “Victory at what cost?”, and all that.

Ultimately, Firelands yesterday felt more like 30%-nerfed ICC. It was eerie, the deja vu.

On the bright side, we’ll probably kill Ragnaros tonight. About two weeks ahead of schedule, thanks to this handicap that’s been shoved down our throats.

I expect this will be our reaction when we’re standing over Ragnaros’ defanged corpse:

This pretty much sums up what I’m expecting to run into exactly. The first half of the instance was already far too easy on 10 due to the nerfs, and I’m fully expecting that at this point clearing trash will take more time than anything else in the instance.

My experience last night definitely bears that out!

We went rolling in with alts last night. We were up to Rags in about 80 minutes.
Had never done beyond the first 3 with alts (combination of a lot of things), but with a less than strong group, we one shotted everything, then pushed Rags to 50% on the first try. Then someone had to log so we put it on the back burner cause we now have all freakin week to finish it.

I’m very curious how our mains are gonna do tonight. We finally got to 4/7 heroic on Sunday, so I’m half wondering if we’re gonna steamroll the next 2 even having lost a healer to RL this week.

80 minutes is insane. I think we got there in about just shy of 2 hours, mostly due to our usual slow pace on trash, haha. Still, it’s sad that the trash was a bigger speedbump than the bosses!

Last week I got my first Ragnaros kill in. I was satisfied with how I still managed to get him down before the nerf but as far as I can read the nerf is really harsh. 30-40 seconds left on hatchlings O_O that’s insane. I wonder how many phases you can push now. I probably won’t die anymore by decemation blades now it’s nerfed that hard :(

It definitely takes a lot of the “oh god I’m going to die” excitement out of Baleroc. Sad face for sure.

For anyone having consistent success on Alysrazor I would seriously recommend learning Heroic. With the nerfs the fight feels a lot like Normal. You will, of course need to learn the new mechanics but the changes have made it much more forgiving.

The most serious issue for us was people running into tornadoes because their speed was tuned so slowly.

Thanks – I’m finding all the reactions to the nerf very interesting. (We’ve featured this post on the Melting Pot as part of our FL nerf reactions roundup)

I take it the earlier bosses were even more trivial?

      Thanks for the link!

Yep, as you suspected, early bosses were a cakewalk. Gunship-easy for a lot of them. That might be weeks of kills on top of the nerf, speaking. But in the case of Rhyolith especially (after his previous nerf), it was almost pitiable.

    I’m loving the nerfs!

We were stuck on 1/7 HC pre-nerf, so we’ve been working on HCs now. It’s great – they feel like FL normal in June when wearing 355 gear average.

We now have 5 “new” bosses to learn. The HC modes are now nicely challenging, rather than impossible/faceroll for our guild gear/skill-level.

It’s great to spend an evening wiping on a boss, followed by a first kill, which was impossible for us beyond Shannox HC pre-nerf.

True, I’m sure my perspective will change hugely when we’re working on suddenly accessible heroic modes.

I’m curious to see how tonight plays out. Last week we were at Rag after 2 hours for 6/7, and we started late. We’re already planning alt runs for our Monday raid because we expect a clear tonight. I guess I get to learn to Disc heal again since I have nothing else to do (or play my DK).

It definitely feels like the nerfs came too soon–and it really feels like a kick in the stomach. I think if we had 1 more hour for Rag on Monday, we would have beat the nerfs… =\

    Good luck tonight!

This will not bear out well when the time comes to make the transition from T12 to T13. raiding groups will get a warped sense of where there progression should be, and when they fail to meet those expectations, those guilds that lack exceptional leadership and esprit de corps will burn. Think about all the guilds that died on your server during january and february, and all the people who left the game because of those deaths. It’s all going to repeat itself.

I don’t think this would of been bad if the damage output of the bosses stayed at it was.

I am all for ‘small’ reductions in bosses health to make the fights shorter, but I absolutely hate damage reductions in massive numbers.

It makes for lazy players and makes some players think they are better than they actually are.

Planned later nerfing of content is the only reason they made the content as hard as it was initially.

Tragically for them, it’s not going to work — the audience for the nerfed content has to a large extent just stopped raiding, and all the kings horses and men won’t put the busted guilds and cancelled accounts back together again.

One of the really fun things about Baleroc was getting an insane number of buff stacks, growing giant, having a Lay On Hands land for over a million and a half hit points. That’s mostly gone; we killed him before I was within breathing distance of a million. We’ll hit him on heroic next week, maybe then I can recreate the Attack of the 50 Foot Woman.

I agree that the “normal” modes feel cheapened with the nerfs.BUT when your in a 25 man that was only 3 bosses into the normals due to lack of participation in the latter park of the week, its kinda bittersweet. Now the 10 man I tank for is still learning the Heroics and that does feel slightly nerfed…but still rewarding as far as challenge.
