Art for the sake of awesome art

I first saw Vidyala’s artwork on Anea‘s blog (whichever one of her many sites she was operating at the time, haha) and I was immediately struck by how great it was. At the time, I was looking for a new header image for Righteous Defense. Something other than Graccus, that stalwart TCG character. Something of my own that couldn’t be forced down with a C&D letter one day.

So I hit up twitter, and asked if anyone knew someone taking art commissions and Vid (of Pugging Pally fame) dm’d me back in short order offering her services. I took her up on it and I am so happy I did. As you can see above, I have definitely gotten the deal of a century. I’m pretty sure Italian princes used to have to pay small fortunes to get this kind of quality back in the day.

I’ll stop before I get accused of flattery.

In any case, if anyone is wondering the meaning of the new banner above, it’s a drawing of yours truly standing before a burning block in Stratholme, looking all righteous and “defense-y”. Fitting, I would say.

If you’re looking for someone to do an art commission of your character for a blog, or what-have-you, I cannot recommend Vidyala enough (you can find her email address on her about page). The whole process was a joy to proceed through, and Vid was very patient with my many, many tweaks and requests. She took my bizarre and vague description of what I was looking for, and turned it into the amazing banner that now adorns the top real estate of this blog. All in all, I could not be more satisfied with the process or the final result. Thanks Vid!

She’s already hard at work on mine! That looks really good; I love how you just HAVE to show off your 277 tier. SOME OF US AREN’T SO FORTUNATE!

Heh, you’re the one who decided to roll a new pally rather than transfer!

Although, funny story, she was almost done with mine when I got my 277 shoulders. I was debating emailing her and asking her to recolor the picture to match the 277 tier but didn’t want to be a pain in the butt, so I let it go. The next day I get a new version of the drawing, recolored, with a note along the lines of “I saw you got 277 tier, so I changed the colors, looks much better this way.”

      Mindreading–now that is service!

Haha. Well I saw you mention on Twitter that you had got them… and it was more like, “What, I’m not even done and now it’s going to be outdated? C’monnn.” I thought it was funny that you didn’t really WANT to ask but you kind of wanted to ask. Worked out well!

Considering his tier piece choice had nothing to do with stats and everything to do with: “The shoulders look the most badass – I have to have them first” ……. yes, you made the right call pandering to his love of pretty things to wear!

:D Very nice, very nice, I like the new layout!

If I end up moving to horde before Cataclysm I’ll definitely have to set aside the cash to go cow later. I’m turned off by the whole frosted tips, my 277 is awesome because it looks so good, isn’t my portrait pretty vibe.

And, yes, the portrait is very pretty.

Oh, and believe me, transferring is something I’m reconsidering, although I’m sure your plate DPS department is pretty well-stocked at the moment!

One of our Rets is out of commission for probably a month, I would suspect. We’re also in the middle of assessing some new recruits. Definitely a chance to jump in.

    Another artistic success from Vidyala!

I’ll have to set up an Art page to showcase all the arts I’ve gotten done, including her awesomeness of my dorf.

    Looks great, Rhidach!
