What’s the uptime on Quel’Serrar’s Sanctuary?
I picked up the Gleaming Quel’Serrar from Ony10 last night, and while its threat capabilities are subpar, I’m enamored with the potential of the Sanctuary proc. So I trudged over to the old digs in Silvermoon and sat in front of a dummy for 30 minutes, seeing what the uptime on the proc would work out to.
In case you’re wondering, I wore a set that was hit capped, expertise soft-capped, but not expertise hard-capped. This is per usual for me in raids, though YMMV.
As this log shows, I’m happy to report that I got an uptime of 64.5% on the proc, which works out to a “constant” 64.5 defense rating and 903 armor, which is not too shabby. The defense will obviously not help you get uncrittable (seriously, don’t use this sword unless you’re already at 5.6% uncrit, you can’t depend on the proc to bridge the gap), but it is worth 1.57% avoidance. Also not too shabby.
I’m pretty happy with the sword, although I’d prefer the 245 version. Alas, beggars, choosers, and whatnot.
I want the sword for the sheer nostalgia – I’ve got both the Heroic tanking weapons off Anub, so it’d be for putting Crusader on (like the old days) and running around giggling.
Of course I want a TF on my pally too (I miss the one on my warrior) even though I know it’s an outdated weapon – it is still, hands down, the coolest looking sword in the game. I still laugh wen I pull it out and hear the “crash” proc…
It is to look cool but i think the graphics card a bit out dated.
I have the original Quel Serar by the way and the 10man version. It’s funny how before you needed to go through a series of requirements to get it, such as getting Ony to fire breathe on the sword then kill her with it. Now fast forward to Wotlk, and any punk can get it with no hassle. Where’s the fun in that?
The stats are more or less the same with the old one just improved stats. The only usage i see for this is Kologarn, Thorim and other fights that require defense to counter bosses that nerf your def stats. Sure it won’t give you 100% uptime for the buff, but the 50-60% is better then nothing.
That sword, chanted with Blade Ward, along with the Ony Head trinket, wouldn’t be too bad in an avoidance set, ya think? With the proc on the sword, it seems like you could get some decent avoid from it…unless the proc is less avoidance than Sor’thalis or Titanguard.
I don’t like depending on procs when I’m tanking. It’s why I use blood draining instead of Mongoose – it’s not a monster heal, but I know it’ll be there every time.

Ditto. I’m mostly screwing around with QS right now–for the important stuff I have Ardent Guard equipped. Both are enchanted with Blood Draining.
