Hit, expertise, and your third glyph slot
A major concern that is wracking the tanking world right now is the utter dearth of hit rating on 25man raid gear. Prior to the few upgrades I yanked out of the Coliseum this week I was sitting at full hit cap, 263. Now, thanks to said upgrades and swapping in the SoV glyph I find myself already soft capped for expertise (great) but now only at 175 hit (boo).
This problem is only going to get worse as I continue to get gear from Col25. If I were to deck myself completely out in those items, I’d be sitting at 214 expertise. That’s 26 skill, the soft cap.
Once the soft cap of expertise is reached, additional points of expertise come with a tps benefit reduced by half.
As such, I’m contemplating how much longer I’m going to delay before I ditch the SoV glyph… er, again. And, likewise, what I’m going to replace it with.
Because of the loss of hit that will be going hand in hand with this rise in expertise, the Glyph of Righteous Defense is a natural choice. What concerns me most about losing hit isn’t so much the tps loss, but the threat to the healers’ well-being if a taunt misses (which it’ll have a much higher chance to do).
I could swap in the Judgement glyph, but Judgement is such a miniscule part of my tps that the glyph wouldn’t have enough of an effect to be worthwhile. I’m definitely open to suggestions for replacements.
Perhaps, if you don’t need the SoV glyph, Glyph of Seal of Righteousness might be ideal. There are certainly times when I use it to tank stuff that dies before I can get 5-stacks of Vengeance off. I guess to play it safe Righteous Defence makes more sense, especially considering you named your site after it! ;)
I’d go for the RF Glyph, specially if you are sitting around 5 to 8% hit.
Question – and while we don’t ‘need’ the mana, this might be an option.
1) You have 2 points in imp judgements – do you find this makes your 9/6/9 too tight? Or have you found the 1 extra second to be worthwhile?
2) WIth the changes to SoC in 3.2.2, this poses an interesting thought (and may be why getting the SoC glyph becomes viable for mana starved situations). It says that SoC will jump to two extra targets when triggered, and HotR already will trigger any seal you have active This means, in theory, that if you have the glyph of HoR, and spec into SoC (easily done), you could hit 4 targets, each one then proccing SoC to hit 2 additional targets. With the change to threat from RF, this has some serious potential. What are your thoughts on this? I’ll math it up for my own blogpost later today – but I’m looking for some general thoughts.
@Adgamorix: Certainly SoCasino has potential for thrash AoE situations IF they let it go live as it is ATM, but honestly and as some people have already said, it seems blizz has still no idea of what to do with their seal/judgement system. So take everything with a sack of salt, since its prone to change.

@Adgamorix: I saw a quote form Ghostcrawler today that indicates he only wants SoC proccing from single attacks (ie. no HotR SoC spam). It’s a shame and that’ll reduce its potential threat-generating capabilities. I don’t think the ptr reflects this yet, but I’m sure a future build will.
As for 2/2 Imp Judgements, I’m a huge fan of it thus far. It’s pretty awesome for trash where I’m more accustomed to FCFS flailing-about. Probably works out to a tps increase on trash (though, obviously not by much). Moreover, it doesn’t trip up my 969 at all because I’m not using judgement out of turn on any boss fight.
That’s too bad about SoC not proccing off HoR, but it makes sense. That would be insane for AoE threat/tanking. It seems like the change to SoC is to give retadins a little more damage in quick AOE situations – which I don’t disagree with.
