Here’s something you’re seeing more and more of recently: raiders forgoing the Greater Inscription of the Pinnacle and instead nabbing the Greater Inscription of the Gladiator for their shoulder enchants. My first thought when I saw this was “resilience in my pve gear?!” but at second look it’s not such a bad idea.
If you break down the numbers, the Pinnacle enchant gives you:
- .86% avoidance (from dodge and defense rating)
- .12% mitigation (block from def)
- .12% crit chance reduction
The Gladiator enchanter gives you:
- 342 hp
- .18% crit chance reduction
So the big question here is what’s more worthwhile having, the avoidance and mitigation of Pinnacle, or the health of Gladiator? Personally, I’m thinking that in terms of heavy hitting Ulduar bosses, I’d rather have the assurance of the extra health (and that’s before Kings) over the RNG-ariffic avoidance.
It’s only 10k honor to purchase a Gladiator enchant from the PVP vendors in Org/SW. I think I’ll switch that out tonight when I log in.
@honorshammer
The other BIG bonus is no Son of Hodir grind.
@Rhidach
Agreed!
I took inscription *specifically* to avoid the shoulder rep grind.
But that means I have to take into account about .81% more dodge.
So, if you’re a Scribe, does the final decision change? 1.44% dodge, .12% mitigation, .12% crit reduction vs the Gladiator enchant? Too bad there’s not a Scribe version of Gladiator. Muwahahaha! Ahem.
@iamapaladin
Pretty interesting. Didn’t even realize that the PVP enchant could be better.
Inscriptionists get to avoid rep grind for shoulder enchant.
But for non Inscriptionists you definately must get rep with Argent for your head enchant, and also sons of Hodir for your shoulder enchant.
You must squeeze out as much potential from your gear and the only way to do that is gems and enchants :p
i’d still stick to the sons of Hodir enchant unless i was an inscriptionist of course.
Hm… mitigation stats is better since it has more potential to reduce heals needed on you in the long run. The healers will thank you.
The 300 ish hp is minimal. Once your 30k hp, 300 hp really isn’t that much to offer you compared to the mit i would feel.
If it was 1000hp like what my gossamer gives me then i’d get that.
@Rhidach
I disagree. Avoidance is all well and good, but dodging an attack won’t do you a lick of good if you can get two shot by a boss. Avoidance is all RNG and you can’t depend on it to save you. On the other hand, HP is HP, and you can never have too many hit points.
Nice tip. I don’t feel up for grinding my SoH rep to exalted and since my raid leaders determine who is the better tank solely on who has more HP, I think I’m gonna switch. :)
I cant say I strongly agree, I just exist…
Nah, anyway, i had considered it an option, but since im lazy and dont like math that much I assumed somebody else would do it for me….
And yeah, i do have 3 Tanking sets, so this shoulder chant would go nice for my EH set.
and Ridach, you owe me a cookie.
And 2 pancakes.
I’m hungry

@Rhidach
@Logan: Done, but in return I want your Titanguard.
@Molsan: Hrm, that’s a crappy metric for choosing a tank. Does a Druid always MT then? (By the way, your guild name is awesome.)
Titanguard? what Titanguard???
/hissssssss
@Rhidach No Druid tanks in our raids (thank goodness). I’ve also been told a coin flip helps determine who’s the MT for the week. I should have more HP than our other two tanks this week so we’ll see if I lose the coin flip this time.
@Molsan: just make sure it´s not a leather coin…
I think i will set a roll among our tanks to determine MT position…
HUmm.. A bit late, but I think you forgot to add the extra Spellpower we get from the PvP Shoulder enchant =P
